Lesson 4. Multiplying negative numbers

When a positive number is multiplied by a negative number the answer is negative.
When two negative numbers are multiplied together the answer is positive.

EXAMPLES:

–3 × (–7) = 21
5 × (–3) = –15
–1 × (–2) × (–3) = –6

Order of operation.

Everyone has agreed to work out problems in the same order so that there is only one correct answer.
The table below shows the order.
Remember the word  ‘BODMAS’  (the  ‘O’ is just used to make a word)
EXAMPLE:

14 × 2 + 3 × 5
= 28 + 15
=43
