Lesson 25. Drawing curves

EXAMPLE:

Draw y = x² + 3, using x-values from –3 to 3.

Draw a table

Start with x = 0 and positive x-values first

y = 0² + 3 = 0 + 3 = 3

y = 1² + 3 = 1 + 3 = 4

y = 2² + 3 = 4 + 3 = 7

y = 3² + 3 = 9 + 3 = 12

Now be careful with the negative x-values

–draw axes so that all the points can be plotted

–plot each point

–join up all the points with a smooth curve

–label the curve with its equation
