Cancelling Fractions

We often like to make the numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number) as small as possible by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number. This is called 'cancelling down the fraction'.

Multiply whole number by denominator

2 × 8 = 16

Add the numerator

16 + 3 = 19

Pun sum over denominator
