Fractions and percentages.
Per cent means
‘out of 100’. Percentages are fractions with denominator (bottom
number) equal to 100.
EXAMPLES:
63% means 63/100
7% means 7/100.
17 out of 100

25% of 60 =
1/4 ×
60 = 60 ÷ 4 = 15.

3/4 ×
36 = (36 ÷ 4) × 3 = 27.

2/3 ×
24 = (24 ÷ 3) × 2 = 16.
Multiples of 10%
10% = 1/10
To work out 20%,
find 10% then multiply by 2.
To work out 30%,
find 10% then multiply by 3
and so on.
Harder percentage.
EXAMPLES:
Find 23% of a number. Divide the number by 100 to find 1% then multiply by 23 to find 23% of the number.

12% of 2300
1% of 2300 = 2300 ÷ 100
12% of 2300
= (2300 ÷
100) × 12 = 276

To change decimals into percentages, the first two numbers after the point give the percent:
