Lesson 9. Percentage change


EXAMPLE:

WRITE the fraction, decimal, and percent of yellow frosted cupcakes in each row.
If 3 out 10 cupcakes have yellow frosted, this can be written as 3/10, 0.3, or 30%.

EXAMPLE:

In a survey about favorite drinks, 37 out of 100 people said they preferred wine. Write this as a percentage.

 37/100 = 37%

of the people said they preferred wine.
Write the two numbers as a fraction of each other then multiply by 100 to change into a percentage.

EXAMPLE:

Suppose there are 25 cars in the staff car park. 9 of the cars were made in Japan. What percentage of the cars were made in Japan?
EXAMPLE:

A holiday firm reduces its prices of a holiday from £1740 to £1479.
Find the percentage decrease.
actual decrease =

1740 – 1479 = 261

percentage decrease =
EXAMPLE:

Roger buys a box of shirts for £180 and sells them for £232.20.
Find the percentage profit.
actual profit =

232.20 – 180 = 52.20

percentage profit =
